Many tributes have been paid to Frank McDonald, a man of enormous courage and decency. He was also great fun.
We admired Frank from afar for years – his love of Dublin and its architectural heritage was infectious. He was properly cynical about corrupt developers and spineless politicians.
Five years ago, Dublin Port generously agreed to support a new book by Frank, to be produced by the Little Museum. ‘A Little History of the Future of Dublin’ is a breathtaking survey of attempts to re-imagine our capital.
When we asked Frank for a blurb for the back cover, he suggested Bob Geldof’s description of him as “a permanent thorn in the fat arse of municipal pretension.”
Our capital is a poorer place in the absence of its great champion.
Our condolences to Frank’s husband, Éamon, and to all their family and friends.
