You Can Leave At Any Time

You Can Leave At Any Time

“A profoundly affecting experience that illustrates past horrors with dignity.”

Sunday Times

More than 10,000 women and girls spent time in Magdalene laundries, which operated until the 1990s, with the blessing of family, Catholic Church and State. In a society with little social welfare and a strict moral code, Magdalene homes were a way to control and exploit women who were unwanted or simply inconvenient.

Mary Merritt spent 14 years in High Park Magdalene laundry. In this remarkable new installation, Mary remembers her time in the laundry and her search for justice ever since. You Can Leave At Any Time is a powerful indictment of Official Ireland and a moving piece of social history. It is also an extraordinary work of story-telling.

This fifteen-minute installation is presented for an audience of one person each day. Over 18s only.
